Got a ride to Nuremberg after 30 mins.By far the best spot to leave the Rhein-Neckar area in direction south and east. Take S9 from Mannheim and walk to the spot. The gate is open

After getting there by bus & train and walking about 25min, we stood at the first exit, where you get all the cars going both to the highway or to the petrol station. A lot of cars passed by, but we shortly got a ride to Heidelberg. Seems to be a good spot to go north.―JumpingRabbit
