I got dropped of on the highway the evening before and walked here in the morning. The fence at the tollstation is broken and its easy to access the highway up a small slope. The workers greeted me back nicely and i got a ride in no time by a truck to Romania.
At the border we got X-Rayed and my guitar was inspected and played by the police:)

Not much traffic off season. Mostly Turkish cars with 34 area code. Many trucks with 16.I needed to go to Sofia so i tried to go east with sign Bulgaria and west with Sign Thessaloniki. Sometimes both while standing in the middle and turning for cars/trucks.
Going to Turkey should be possible since i got offered rides by truck drivers.
The police were really chill only checked my Passport and told me they have to kick me out if someone reports me and chatted with me about traveling while doing their checks. The checkpoint and police presence probably made the drivers not stop for me.

Good spot for getting to Thessaloniki, behind the tools. On parking right next to the tools there are toilets that looked like they were for free but I haven't tested them so I can't guarantee that―Autostopeks

Right after tools, great spot and both tools staff and police that passed (that was the first time I saw them on highway in Greece by the way) didn't care about me hitchhiking here. I quickly got ride to the next tools close to Thessaloniki―Autostopeks

Asked a albanian truck driver if he could take me to turkey. First he refused, but after his break he came back and offered to drop me off in front of the border near Alexandroupoli. Didnt even need to jump the fence like another reviewer mentioned, theres a big hole nowadays.―KaeptnBub

Lots of room to stop in the emergency lane, but 2 different police cars pulled over and told me off for standing on the highway, but eventually I got taken all the way to Thessaloniki. Just hope no police come past.―Mattalackion

quite hard to get here bc not a single app was right about the bus timetable, ended up taking bus 51 (none of the others were coming) which was an unsafe walk to this spot so maybe be a bit more patient with the busses―suruh

My plan was to ask the Turkish truck drivers and if not successful move to the toll station. Asked the first Turkish truck driver and he dropped me at the border ! Tesekurler Fethi! He also share his meal with me.―cavalierrustique

To go back from Mount Athos to Thessaloniki, just make some friends during your pilgrimage/trip. A lot of people come from there and will go back by car. Thanks George and Theodoris!―cavalierrustique

Good spot to go East despite it's difficult country to hitchhike. I had a "ATHOS" sign written in Greek by a local, it helped me to get more attention than just thumb (I am really heading there tho). Thanks ἄγγελος! I got hosted by a nice orthodox family―cavalierrustique

In my opinion it's better spot then station cuz hare is more traffic, cars are slow after toll station and there is place to stop. Better to use sign. After an 1h Turkish truck driver took me to Turkish border.
