Just below the foot bridge is a big section of hard shoulder. The cars are going quite fast but I got a ride to the airport in 20 minutes. These sections of hard shoulder can also be found closer into the city, nobody seemed to care that I was thumbing such a big fast road.

Only problem was low sun in the evening burning the drivers eyes. Had fun english conversation with a lovley driver. Thumb only.

We waited long. Many tourists probably drove after the attractions, but when we wrote the card Reykjavik we catch in faster than with a thumb

Large road with a large bus stop (it's covered, so you can use it as a shelter when it's raining). Lots of people driving downtown, useful for outbound hitches as well.

This is the best place for hitchhiking if you're leaving the Reykjavík area to the north. Cars are slowed down here right after the roundabout and they have space to stop on the shoulder to pick you up.

There aren't really any good spots here, but Bus number 1 from Reykjavik stops very near by (When you reach Hafnarfjörður, just ask the driver to let you know when you're close to Reykjanesbraut) and you'll kind of have to walk along the road with your finger out. The road shoulder is not bad though, so cars can stop if they see you in time. Not good, but it works.

Most people who drive past you here are going at least to Borgarnes, and this is a nice place for them to stop and pick you up. Bus 15 stops in Mosfellsbær, from there you'll need to walk a little bit to get to this point.

I got a ride to the airport within seconds, I didn't even have the chance to put my backpack down. IT was so quick I ended up with 4:30 hours to kill until my flight...

I am not sure which place is referred to here, but Kópavogur is on the other side of Reykjavík, towards Keflavík.

Each three sides of the roundabout are perfect for thumbing. Northwards and Southwards it will be very quick (usually it was 2-3 minutes tops), but direction Pingvellir and along road 36 it might be a bit slower, as less traffic goes there. From here I managed to hitchhike to Selfoss several times through Pingvellir at 10pm, so everything is possible in Iceland! x) [AdrianB]

Great spot, got a ride in less than 10 minutes! You may catch a ride to North or to the Geysir!
