A kind tourist picked the two of us up, and we continued our journey together along the south coast before heading back to Reykjavík. Bónus is no longer on the corner.―Anonymous

Had to hitchhike in Selfoss, because our rental car broke down. It was easy, even with 3 people, we had a ride to Reykjavik after 5 minutes.―Anonymous

I wait a little further down the road before the "70" sign, there is a bit more space for them to stop.―Teeshirt

This roundabout is the obvious spot when going on Road #1 from Hveragerði to Reykjavík and there's lots of space for cars to stop.―Anonymous

Good place at the end of the town to hitch-hike towards Hella and Vík.It's not the "top 10" place because there's not a lot of space to stop safely and a lot of cars are turning right to the supermarket just in front of you but if somebody wants to take you he will definitely stop here. Cars go still quite slowly.
Btw. There's a cheap supermarket "Bónus" just next to this hitch-hiking spot.

Very good place to head over to Thingsvellir. Good reachable from Selfoss by walking a gravel road, starting at the gravel plant.―Anonymous

Straight after the bridge, there's a cool spot to pull over. Don't go all the way to the gas station though as the cars go quite fast there and it's hard to spot you from distance.―Anonymous
