I tried hitching to the ruins of Segesta here. Waited for over a literal hour. A lot of cars, often with 3 empty seats, pass by - either as local traffic, or ignoring you, or looking at you as if the concept of hitchhiking is completely alien and anthropologically fascinating to them, something they never saw a mortal do before. I finally got picked up, but only taken to an intersection even more in the middle of nowhere.

Presuming you arrive in Castellamare by train, you'll want to HH because the station is an hour by foot from the town. This location seems to work well. It's not a busy road but not too empty either. 5-10min waiting time.

Got picked up fast and taken to Palermo. But be careful when crossing this road and with where you stand.

Terrible place. Only 1 car every 5-10 minutes, and even though they can see you from far, they are somehow incapable to grasp it might be useful to pick you up as you are stuck in the middle of nowhere. They do honk at you. It's also a dangerous place to stand and the shadowy spots are pretty sparse. I finally got picked up and dropped off at another junction about 30min by foot from the Segesta site. All in all, it took me between 4 and 5 hours to get from Castellamare to the ruins of Segesta (a 20min drive). Don't be stupid like me and just take the Tarantola bus.

Got picked up very fast and taken to the village center of Scopello.

Asking ppl on the parking spot: this probably works alright in the direction of Scopello and Trapani, but is pretty much useless in the direction of Palermo because it's on the other side of the road.

Got picked up fast, even though we were only taken to Castellammare.

Not hitchhiking, but asking people on the parking spot. If you want to get to Palermo, you'll find someone fast enough. To Castellammare I got a ride in 25 minutes.
