Was here on a sunday, at the end of easter break, direction turin, very little traffic, waited for 2 hours and gave up, only got offered one lift in the wrong direction. During the week there is probably much more though.

Be aware that there is staff roaming the gas pumps helping out drivers, and they did not want me to run around the pumps talking to people but they were friendly and said i could go stand after the pumps, and even helped translate with the one guy who offered me a ride

Not easy to go to this place, but when you go through the field it is a quite fine spot to go to Milan from nearby villages. We had a sign Milano. A guy took us to a metro station, by metro we went to the southern part of Milano to Romolo station and continued to Genova from there.

you can get here pretty easily by bus and walking 10min but the walk is a bit sketchy at the side of the road. the italians were not very friendly and there was not as much traffic as expected. we were looking for a ride to como. lots of cars were going to varese. we didn't have any hope left but then someone took us all the way to zurich and even recommended a sleeping spot.

Li lasis min ĉe loko, kie ne estis buso proksime, sed tamen mi sukcesis vidi mian fraton. Tio estis agrabla.

This is the best way to get a ride out of Milan on to the highway. Just make a carton with 'Autostrade' and you are able to get a ride on to the next gas station.
It is difficult for cars to stop, because of the high speed allowed and many lanes. But if the traffic signal is red you have some chance.
You can get on to the platform between the road and the special lane for better visibility.

traffic there goes to all three directions: westwards, northwards and eastwards.

A quite small petrol station with Autogrill.
It is theoretically a good spot to hitch away from Milano but its quite hard getting there by public transportation. I took an S-train direction Abbiaragate to the station Cesano Boscone and from there bus 323 to D'Acquisto-Liberta stop at the roundabout. From there you have to cross a kind of natural park which then ends and you have to walk through 2 fields crossing two small "rivers", for the first there is a tree put as natural bridge, the second you have to take shoes off and walk through. Otherwise its impossible to get to the motorway. After this there was even some road works around the station so I had to cross the road works illegally. After all this I got a direct ride to Basel, Switzerland.
