If you come from the railway station of stradella, theres a roadmap in the station, where you can see the way to the gas station. Once you reach the end of the city, dont follow the main road that is only for cars and turns towards the gas station but turn left onto a road that is closed with red barriers. The railroad crossing is closed as well but if you are careful and slip through the barrier you will reach the gas station from behind.

Heading north to Brescia/Verona: This is actually just another gas station on the highway. Heading to Bologna from here you'll def find someone. Brescia/Verona was a bit harder though. In addition I wanted to add that in case you get stuck here as I did at late night there is a golf field just behind the gas station. If you're advanturous enough (and don't have a tent on you) jump over the fence, cross the golf field and you will see some cabines where you are save from the weather. I spend a quite comfortable night there without being disturbed by someone :)

Relatively big service area which in fact turns it very difficult to harness. Autogrill and petrol station are separated, meaning you cannot attack clients of both. At the highway entrance the cars are already going fast so they are not likely to stop there. The cardboard approach will definitely not work here, in my experience the best way is to camp in front of the autogrill and ask people returning to their cars, interleaved with a quick round at the truck parking lot behind.

Also, be careful with the highway police. They told me that it was forbidden to hitchhike on the highway, in vain I was trying to explain we were eventually OFF the highway... They didn't fine me though, but as a headsup, if you see them coming hide anything that would give you away.

Quite big gas station.
If you will get stuck there for a night you can follow the local road in the direction of the city and really soon next to the church there will be playground for kids with some grass and running water where you can spend a night.

Been asking around gas station if someone's going into bolognia direction. Not that many people were going there, most traffic to east or north. But apparently we've asked some businessman and got a ride in a brand new Volkswagen SUV taken 2 Hours ago from the dealership. Also the guy was a DJ and showed us his tracks.

We had to go there like 5km through the forest and the river because we've been left on the prior gas station going in the direction of Milan. After getting to that station first people we asked took us to Piacenza. Turned out it was s pretty famous Italian director
