Okay place, not much time for cars to decide, but it works, we used a sign for Florence, there is a trash can at the parking where we found cardboard so id recommend making a sign, since right away the first car we showed the sign to stoped😆

The traffic is not bad, we used a combination of one guy asks at the door of the autogrill and the second tries with a thumb up, eventually got a car using the thumb to Pisa, but I would try asking the foreign cars in person to maximise chances since Italians simply wont stop🥲

Still works in 2025! When your coming from the fields there is a spot on the left side of the fence where can jump over really easily because of a small breakage.
There are only a few cars going to the gas station but the second person we approached gave us a lift directly to the city center in Florence.

This spot is good for every direction: most of the cars go to highway and THEN there's the division of the directions. When you stay here if police says something walk 20m in north direction. There's a board "consorzio agricolo" and enough space for the cars to stop.

There is enough space to stop car but the traffic is so crowded in daytime. We got a ride just for 6 km outside the city. Nobody! Nobody even make an impression, or gesture, just horns

We stayed in the Agip gas station close by. We waited abot 2 hours, it was very little traffic stopping, maybe 1 car every 10 minutes. There is another gas station a little bit further, but it's even worse

First person we asked took us to the Autogrill near Pontedera from where we caught a ride to Florence straight away.

From there it was easy to get a ride to Pisa. We were 2 people at 11 am.

the spot is good (cars go slow and there's place to stop) but i didn't manage to get a ride for the highway after nearly 2 hours. It works probably much better if you're staying on Aurelia (SS1) especially if going south.

This is the bus stop where you'll have to stop to walk to the Esso Gas Station on the highway. See the next point to the right

This is the best place to hitchhike from Pisa in direction of Firenze (but it works also to Rome, and Milan, north and south). It's a gas station on the highway. You can reach it with a public bus that you take in front of the Train Station in Pisa. You have to stop in Via Marcello Malpighi (Ospedaletto), and from there walk through the field. I put another point on the bus station. The 4th car picked us up, and all of them were very friendly, that is not very common in Italy. You might need to change several cars in the highway, because lots of people go to villages nearby.
