One of the better spots in san marino. But far from the main city ://. At least hour of walking by the side of this regional road. Not that fun. But here drivers see you for a while and go at kinda normal speeds. Also you can ask at the gas station. Fr my case during rush hour it was fuuull. But they just didnt care about me. So got depressed and went to stand with a sign and after 25 mins a very cool italian guy took me to rimini

Two young people took me to gabicce mare (i stood with a cattolica sign). I was during rush hour and the traffic was veryyy slow and there is a loot of space to stop and a gas station to ask if you need. Good spot if you dont go that far

What a spot, I had a sign to Rimini and got picked up by a lovely lady in 15 mins, petrol station for people to drive into, lots of cars going by and traffic so they can see you

You can get here by bus from Riccione (41,43) and access from the service road in the back - try your luck in convincing someone to open the gate for you, or try to jump over the fence a bit right of the gate

a gas station just outside rimini and it's good for either north or south, however, you got to stay at the entrance, since the staff is very hostile towards hitchhikers

The review on the north side pin is really accurate! The gate on the south side was open when i came, showers are working either at the petrol station and downstairs the restaurant on this side.
İ tried my first solo tablediving here thanks to a cute american family sitting next to me wasting a big rice mozzarella dish.
Nearly 10 drivers stopped but they all were going north, a truck driver polish lady came to offer me food, a man stopped just to show me his drum while i was playing mine :D i really didn't wish to leave this service station however after 5 hours waiting for a ride to east (Rimini) i gave up 7pm and accepted the next ride offer.

The petrol station is not so busy, you can also try to hitchhike next to the road. After 15 minutes the first car that came into the station picked me up and took straight to San Marino.

I arrived from Fabriano and continued towards Rimini. Friendly people waving and smiling from cars and buses. There's lane enough to stop within the roundabout. A family picked me up.
As long as it gathers drivers from Jesi and Fabriano free highway, this spot serves the south direction too. If not, Ancona south toll can be better.
See you in 5!

Got a ride to Bologna after 30 minutes of smiles.
Invest 1,50€ by Roger app to get bus 9 from Rimini station to San Vito or train to Santarcangelo and walk from the last stop. Stand before the "no autostop". A young guy saw his wanderer friend in me and picked me up. Traffic is chilled but could be busy in rush hours.

Enough place for the cars to stop but as everywhere in Italy, its difficult to get a lift. I tried with a sign to Rimini. After 30 minutes i got a lift.

The first driver that i asked at the petrol station took me to the border.

I waited 90 minutes but i think i was just unlucky. Three cars stopped for me but all were going to South and i wanted to go to Bologna. There are enough place for the cars to stop, you can hitchhike before the no autostop sign so its not illegal to do it here. The other entrance to the highway in Rimini is now under construction so probably its the best spot to hitchhike up to the highway for both direction.

Direction--->everywhere
Slow cars and vans from the ships/cruises are about to start their journey, most of them smiled or waved at me. Also those driving from "parking north" (opposite the ship i was in) pass by here. As less long-range drivers and tourists pass by there, I don't think the yellow northern spot on this hitch-map could be more strategic.
If the lane on the right is closed, you can stand and wait. Just be respectful of traffic and police will tell you nothing. Some tourists asked me for info and wished me good luck.
Nearby buses regularly connect the train station. 9:30am to Vatican and Rome.
A very young guy took me to Rome after 2h when i hid my sign to Rimini, however i could have waited longer for a further ride.

Got a ride to Pesaro in 3 minutes. This spot can be helpful for short distances within touristic coastal towns (Riccione, Cattolica). Come here either on a 40-50 minutes walk or bus 9, 124. Expect longer waits on rush hours.
Kind elder driver in a new Smart car went out of his way. he told me about his seasonal trips across Sahara and Sahel countries by car in the 70s.
Try your luck!

Very easy spot to leave Pesaro without going far away. I started hitchhiking here to play music in the streets of Rimini recently and got 5 rides in less than 10 minutes - especially in the mid-afternoon with less traffic. A lady even turned back at the roundabout to pick me up in the morning. They averagely dropped me in Cattolica or Misano as furthest.
Compared to drivers in next towns, people here are more smiley, reactive and interested in conversation. Still, they'll go out of their way, like a girl who drove 30 more kms just to exchange ideas.
Come here by bus 30, 130, 14 (direct) or CS (10 minutes walk).

Plenty of room to stop and cars not even going that fast. We were trying to catch someone as the bus we waited for didn't show up. Gave up after 15 minutes to make it on time for the next bus in a different spot. But still I believe it is very hard to catch someone solely relying on thumb up in italy. Asking directly is way easier.
