Probably there is no chance for a long ride, but I got really quickly to Barletta, people are nice.

So the fence is really difficult to jump over. Some guy let me in but he was mad about it and said something about police. In 5min I took a ride to another similar station, at this time I thought that's good idea, but actually is very difficult to hitchhike on highway and it's likely that police will show up at some point.

It is possible to get to this gas station by a service road in the back, you have to be lucky to meet someone working there though to open the gate for you

Wasted 6 hours here and in other spots around, and even on the highway itself. I hate this place.

In the absence of any other recommendations I tried this autogrill. Its pretty quiet but I managed to get a lift within 45 mins. You can catch a bus to Modungo from the port or elsewhere in the city. Get off the bus just after it passes under the autostrada and turns right follow the road ahead and under a road bridge and the motorway. You have to climb up the bank and walk along the autostrada for 300m as the access road to the autogrill is fenced off with a couple of dogs roaming around.

From the bus stop its around 30-40min walk. The fence is unclimbable but I was lucky and the door was open! Would suggest to try, even when door is closed, someone might come by and you can ask to be let in. Once inside, its easy to get a lift towards North. Best way out of Bari.

Pretty hard to reach from Bari, we had to jump over the fence too but after trying to negociate a way in by the backdoor, didn't work at all. Then we got tired and accepted a ride to Molfetta, really bad idea, we got stuck in small villages and it was super hard to go again. Better stay on the highway

We first found some local who took us from the center of Molfetta to here. Then no one took us until the local bus took pity and drove us for free to Trani. Too hard to get back on the highway again

As the previous comment says, you can walk to this autogrill, but you have to climb a small fence. There it should be very easy to find someone to go to North

I was at this station in the evening and traffic was low so I tried but also I was already planning to stay in a tent somewhere behind the parking and start again in the morning. After 30min police showed up and asked me to leave the station outside this big fence. Probably the owner really don't like hitchhikers and called a police. I found some quiet nice spot outside the highway, but I was spotted in the morning and some "forest police" came, but the guy was really nice and okay with me when I explained him my story. Then I walked to SS16, because if you will be spotted twice on the same autogrill station you probably will get a fine for trespassing, just sad italian highway experience.
