Very good spot, I was probably lucky but just holding my sign saying La Spezia a had an old couple stop really quickly.

I took the tram T1 to the airport and walked there. Many people are going to Prato. After asking around for more or less 20 minutes I got a ride to Bologna

Cars can see you from distance and there is enough space for them to stop. But the problem is, that you are still quite in the center and with sign to Livorno its a bit strange. One car offered me Empoli and second Lucca but I declined both (should have taken Empoli).

Not a frequented gas station. Maybe 1 car left every 5 minutes (cca 6 cars in 30 minutes). One older lady offered me a ride to Viareggio but I declined because I wanted to Livorno.

Okay place, not much time for cars to decide, but it works, we used a sign for Florence, there is a trash can at the parking where we found cardboard so id recommend making a sign, since right away the first car we showed the sign to stoped😆

Got lucky that some workers were opening the gate as soon as I got to the station. Not sure if access is possible otherwise. No sign, asking people directly. Most foreigners were down but usually had full cars, a couple of Italians on their way to Vicenza dropped me off in Bologna.

Still works in 2025! When your coming from the fields there is a spot on the left side of the fence where can jump over really easily because of a small breakage.
There are only a few cars going to the gas station but the second person we approached gave us a lift directly to the city center in Florence.

you can reach this gas station from florence center by taking bus for the aeroporto. from here, you can take any ride that is entering the autostrada, and if they are not going your direction they can leave you at the first service area on the autostrada, from which it is probably more convenient to hitch.

from Florence city center, try to catch a bus direction Prato! it stops 20m from the petrol station, must be way cheaper than the bus to the airport (6€!!!)

We waited here 1h. I think it's a really good spot (traffic lighter and petrol station...the cars have the place and the time to see your panel!

Me and my beautiful wife tried toward Bologna for 3 hours!! We are nice looking and friendly. That just awful. The only cars which stop - all went to Prato.
Finally we changed our direction to Lucca and it became much more easy.

Busy station with lots of cars constantly coming through. I had a bit of bad luck though,as I got here a little before 10am and didn't get a ride till a bit after 1pm, which was only a short when up to Prato.

I was headed for Genova, and had a sign for such, but after waiting an hour, I switched over to a "Lucca" and "A11", the last finally getting me my short ride.

I was going to a small paese in Vianino province. Firstly wanted to go across Lucca - La Spezia. But after 1,5 hours standing with a tablet I changed my route and wrote on a tablet "Bologna - Parma". After 20 minutes a guy picked me up and took not only to Parma but even 40 kms further in order to bring me up to paese I wanted to go. Benissimo.
By the way, guys at the station were SO nice... They helped me asking a drivers if they go to my direction :)

Exact name of the nearest bus stop is Peretola.

Exact place where it's possible to take a buse in a city center - Largo Fratelli Alinari, 4 (50 m from the train station Firenze S.M.N.) Price of a bus ticket to Peretola is 1,2€.
