We moved here from the second gas station on this road, the one closer to the autostrada. This place was a bit better maybe, cars had to stop on traffic lights, a car stopped in about 2 hours. A young guy took us halfway to Pisa and bought us train tickets to Pisa feeling sorry that he cannot take us there by himself! Real miracle after standing on that road for 4 hours ;)―Chucker

Me & Girl got to Aulla by train so as to avoid hitching out of La Spezia. We hoped the entrance to the motorway will be a reasonable place to hitch into the higway (as the nearest Area di servico (tank station) direction north is just 22 km away from the entrance & every car entering the motorway might drive us into it. Wrong! The spot has no side so that cars could pullover without blocking whole traffic & risking being rear bumped an accident. moreover right @ the place there is an office of "carabinieri" and "polizia stradale".When we add to it italian attitude to hitchhikers it gives us awful place to hitch. We tried 4 hours in the evening -spent a night there- and 2 more hours in the morning of the following day.

this 2 gas stations on the highway are connected with a tunnel that you easily access climbing the fence on the back. Check google maps satellite to understand. So if you get a lift here even in the wrong direction you can easily change―Anonymous

Terrible place. There is a gas station just before the autostrada starts. Cars go really fast and apparently it's almost impossible to stop a car in La Spezia! We waited there for like 2 hours heading to Pisa and not one car stopped. Then we moved to the first gas station on this road. at least cars were going slower.―Anonymous
