we were trying to reach mount etna from here in april 2004. the autobus takes you from the center of 'catania' to 'nicolosi' (the town where this marker is placed). from this spot you can hitchhike to the end of the road at the visitors center about 3 km close to the top of mount etna. we (3 persons) were waiting only a few minutes until someone took us. people are friendly as it is clear that you are a wanderer (meaning to have an interest in the geology). from 'nicolosi' it should also be possible to hitchhike back to 'catania'. on my personal rating from 1 (a very-very poor spot) to 10 (an excellent spot) this place receives an '7 to 8'.―Anonymous

This spot is good for hitchhiking but dont choose this road to hitchhike far to the North. I hitchhiked to Taormina but was very hard on this road. Probably better on the highway.―HUNmeszabi

Good place to hitchhike towards the north(west). Even before the driver who picked us up, multiple others also stopped but went in other directions. It's not on the actual highway so it's not a dangerous place nor (I think) likely to cause problems with police.―csillagkohó

After bad previous experience we ( boy and girl) gave up after an hour and took a train instead. Wanted to go to Syracuse. The only car that stopped for us was a young man, who wanted us to pay 120 euros for the trip and didn't understand the concept of hitchhiking.―Marauder

Within 15min we got taken in one drive straight to the center of Catánia. Better here than in the village center of Trecastagni where there's more local traffic.―csillagkohó

The place is nice with a lot of traffic, but Sicilian people of 2026 are not forthcoming. We were a couple with bags and guitar, didn't work out.―fanky
