Wait a few meters after the toll gate where the cars can stop. Many trucks going to Busan.

Hitching spot basically on the on-ramp to the highway. There's enough space for a car to pull over. Lot's of traffic. 20 minutes waiting time for a direct ride to Daejeon. Works best with a sign in Korean I guess. To get here take the metro to Yongsan station. From here it's only 300 meter to the highway. Simply walk up to the highway and hope for the best. It's Korea (hitchhiking paradise), so don't worry.

Perfect spot to get a ride west, towards Gwangju, Jinju or Jeonju. Waiting time is usually quite short

Good spot to hitch a ride towards Andong or Seoul. There is a way around to get behind the toll gates. Wait there with a sign of your destination and there are big chances that you will get a direct ride.

Nice spot to get a ride towards Seoul or Daejeon. Wait just before ofrafter the toll gates. It took me around 15-20 minutes to get direct ride to Seoul (before the tollgates)

Bad spot if you want to get a ride to Andong or anywhere further. Everyone takes the highway to go to other cities, On highway (toll gates) it takes 10-15 minutes to get a ride, here we waited for around 45 minutes and no one stopped (except for taxis)

Just before the tunnel there is some space to stop. Cars go really fast (it'a a highway) but it's easy to pass the fence - there is some kind of a gate). Had to wait for around 10 minutes to get a direct ride to Andong.

I'm a 25-year-old Caucasian man. I had a clear sign that read in Hangul "Please, bring me to Busan," I found success within three minutes by standing between the two roads leading to the tollgate near the traffic light.
Great spot and the staff of the toll gate can’t bother you.

I'm a 25-year-old Caucasian man. I waited there for an hour, and then the police arrived. They took me to the police station and put me on a bus to Seoul, my final destination. I believe the location is good; I was just unlucky. The cars were driving fast, so you should have a large sign indicating Daejeon or Seoul in Hangul.

Good spot to go to Daegu. We (a couple) waited first at the exit of the SA but wasn't good place so we moved closer to the tolls gate and it worked better. We had a direct ride to Daegu.
Thumb+sign.
