Got a direct lift to Karakol thanks to two Americans Eddie and Justin, and the driver Malik. I met them at the hot springs and they recognised me, otherwise it is very complicated to get a lift down. There are just taxi and private bus that are like very expensive. A guy asked me 20€ to go down, still an option if your knees are dying.―cavalierrustique

Got lucky as there were 2 tourists crossing the border with their guide/driver at the same time as me and they agreed to take me to Karakol. Otherwise it might be a small wait as the border is not too crowded but you only need a few cars here to find s free ride. Border is quite smooth and fast to cross.―VeikkaK
