Was super late at night and was walking to camp but a car saw me and took me to KL. Pretty sure there is a solid spot for hitching where the service road meets the petrol outlet before the highway. (Marker) not sure about shade.

Really good spot as the road coming out of the border checkpoint is a bit dodgy so people have to slow down. Space for them to stop in the taxi rank. Most trucks will turn left to the industrial estate at the first intersection so go for cars. Was here late in the evening but don’t think there would be shade.
I got unlucky I think as there wasn’t much traffic. Be careful and don’t get stuck as the border shuts from 11pm to 5am (Thai time)

Waited 15min to find a lift which took me half the way to Ipoh. Just after the pedestrian bridge

The cars exiting here are not going to Ipoh, they remain in Penang, thus in order to find a ride over the bridge you must wait further back by the pedestrian bridge and the bus stop.

Take a bus from Georgetown and come up here! I get fast ride to Ipoh! :)

It is an industrial area near the airport so, this bridge is mainly used by trucks and cars that come from the airport.

The road is relatively new so the traffic flow is not that much. But you can easily stop a car.

If you come from the airport it is about 15 to 20 min walking. If you come from Georgetown you can take a local bus (about 1usd) and get out right before the river and then walk 10 to 15 min.
