Cars here are heading towards Merzouga, but the nearby police checkpoint must have scared potential lifts off. My previous truck driver stopped for me again out of sight from the gendarmes. As far as I understand now it is illegal for locals to transport tourists unless they are a registered taxi or tour guide, at least in this region. I was uncomfortable when my driver started taking backroads and hiding me in his cab as we passed through towns. I now know he was looking out for himself and I to get me where I needed to go, but don’t feel the need to continue a lift if you’re uncomfortable. Cheers for the lift though mate―Breno

A needlessly long walk out of town but I coincided with the school rush so kept on walking until I was out of their way. Best to get here around 11am when tourists are driving through, locals are very unlikely to stop for foreigners in the desert―Breno
