I actually preferred this spot over the restaurant parking lots nearby.When I was there, the parking lots were pretty empty but there was traffic on the road. There is a bus stop where cars can easily pull over right before the highway to different directions. Had a sign that said Leiden, my ride would only have gone to Alphen but ended up taking me the whole way to Leiden Central Station. Surprisingly good spot. Even though it was already 9pm.

Great spot if you need to go to (northern) leiden from the direction of Amsterdam. The exit of Leiden itself is a bad to spot to hitchhike and quite far from the city.―johan92
