Lol didn't even had the time to write my sign (used the thumb while few cars were passing by) that a car with two Macedonians asked me where I go : "South, North Macedonia...Bulgaria?" "Come in!". Indirect ride to Skopje because they invited me at a generous grill restaurant! Had no problem to pass me trough the border, even though I was heavily controlled―cavalierrustique

Created a sign for skopje on the flight and made sure to display it prominently on the flight. When I landed I walked to the road. Sadly there is nowhere to actually pull over, but cars where repeatedly happy to stop on in the middle of the road as theres very little traffic, its a small airport, and people are pretty chill and cool. I walked along this road towards the roundabout, thumbing cars that came, and I think the tenth car stopped and just said get in. No taxi approaches and the driver spoke perfect English and where cool travellers themselves. Had a lovely journey and arrived in skopje before the shuttle bus (which would have cost €4) had even left the airport. If you dont feel like hitching there is a shuttle bus for 199 den (about 4eur). But it leaves every two hours. The ATMS and money changers offer crap rates. Change money in the city.

Good spot. Everyone goes towards Macedonia. Had a sign "Macedonia". A truck with macedonian driver stoped and luckily I got a ride almost to Skopje (driver went to Tetovo and had to drop me before Skopje, so the rest I just walked)―friskyura

I always use this spot when going south, either stand right next to the toll boots or just a bit further down the road―Milo

Here me and my mate waited almost 45 min to the south direction. It looks really good point to hitch-hike but there is not many cars coming to take petrol. We waited near the highway and one big truck stopped. Driver was going to Veles and he left us in paytolls before Veles. Paytolls also good places to hitch-hike.―Kralx15

I was heading to the Serbian border and got a ride after about 30 mins. I stood at the has station. There aren't so many cars going through, but you can still ask everyone that stops for food or gas refilling.―Emanuele19956

Can also recommend this place! Took the bus #53 (had to get a dayticket for 120 Dinar) to Petrovec (bus takes around 50 minutes from the transportation center), walked to the toll station and right after the toll station I was picked up after a few minutes, under the eyes of a police car haha. Also had a sign which said "Veles".―zabrina

Perfect place to leave from Skopje towards Greece. It is a bit tricky to get there with the Skopje local bus - only go from the Skopje central bus station, do NOT try other bus stops because it is a fucking chaos. If you get to the Petrovec toll gate, everybody is going the right direction and it is fairly easy to get a ride.―Piterpiter

2 guys. We were surprised, but almost none cars passing through the gas station. In 3 hours about 20 cars passed (including the gas station guy after the shift). But if you start kindly asking, someone will take you, although most of the cars stopping are not going to Skopje.―JJ
