Don't wait at the bottom where the shops end. Stand as close as possible to the toll gate and use a sign with destination. We got a lot more reactions that way.―Anonymous

Two guys, obvious foreigners, with our backpacks:This is basically the place which is in the description of Arequipa. Once you found the right bus to go to Uchumayo you have to hop off at the final stop. From the main square just go straight down to where the highway is, maybe not quite obvious from the first sight but you won't miss it. We put ourselves about a 100 metres after the toll collect, at the very end of all the little shops. It took as more than one hour until a veeeeery slow truck stopped for us. It works but you need patience.

Took the bus to Cono Norte from the centre of town and then walked a few minutes. Barely had time to drop our bags and lift our thumbs that an Italian tourist with a rented car stopped to give us a lift. The road between Arequipa and Puno is absolutely gorgeous!―Circusonfoot
