Couldn't even remove our backpacks, some French tourists already stopped. 5 star because it's easy for cars to stop, there is good space on the right. And both people coming from Seixal and Porto Moniz can stop for you.―Anonymous

Going towards Pico do Arieiro. It was late in the afternoon, heavy fogging, very minimal traffic, maybe 40-50 cars in 15 minutes. The spot itself is in the corner next to the STOP sign so can hitchhike both roads and people have to slow down anyways (one road for STOP sign, the other for hairpin corner). I rate it 3 stars as the spot for cars to stop isn't the best. Thankfully traffic is very minimal so that's not really a danger. First couple who stopped also went to Pico do Arieiro so it was an easy hitchhike to the top.―Anonymous

We were walking down towards Canical and just casually sticking my thumb up, hoping for some luck. We got very lucky imo, as a couple stopped really quickly. This was early morning when most people go towards Sao Lourenco and not away. It might be a better spot during the afternoon when most people are finished hiking Sao Lourenco and are going back to their hotels.―Anonymous
