Fábrica da Portucel is a paper factory that has trucks going to all around Portugal, Spain, France, Germany etc. You can hitch a ride to the parking lot from Setubal. If you are not afraid of waiting for hours it's possible to get a long-distance ride. I was there scouting but didn't try hitching yet.―Anonymous

Get to the last traffic lights before the highway (next to Jumbo supermarket) and be ready to get in when the cars are stopped. It is fairly easy to hitch both towards North (Lisbon) and South (Algarve).―Anonymous

On a cloudy day in November it took 40 mins to get a ride for 2 people. Should be easier on days with better weather when more people go to Arrábida.―Ilmer

Not a big amount of traffic on this gas station, but it's definitely a good place to hitch rides direction Algarve. If by any chance you start your trip in Setúbal,it's worth the effort getting to this station (around 6 km walking or by bus to Palmela and then ~2km). Only a small fence separates the road you take from the station.―Ewelinalucy

Arrived 20.12.2017. Basically all local traffic towards Setubal or south. Not a lot traffic on a Wednesday afternoon. Senseless to go East towards Spain. Better stay at previous one closer to Lisbon if heading Spain. In my opinion if you're heading south you might get a chance here, although most of the traffic just head to Setabul or around.―Anonymous

Seems like a nice spot, but we had a hard time here. Maybe we just got a bad luck. But seems like no one was going anywhere far. At least do not try to get a ride from there to South.―Anonymous

Just before the Jumbo gas station. This is the exit road towards the South and a lot of Southwards bound traffic comes by here. There's plenty of time and space for cars to stop to pick you up.―Anonymous

At the end of Avenida Luisa Todi, this seems the indicated spot to hitch a ride into the Arrábida Natural Park or towards Sesimbra. It might be better to stand a bit further down the road though as there's still a lot of local traffic going through here.―Anonymous

There is a petrol station at both sides. So you can get here either to Lisbon or the south of Portugal or to east to Spain―Anonymous
