To head south from Porto (e.g. towards Lisbon)
This gas station is right before the beginning of highway A1, to Lisbon. Just ask people if they're heading south and you're good to go!

I didn't find it a good place - waired for 2 hours, plenty of cars but all of them going to Porto or alsewhere. We also tried to stand at the street after the roundabout, no luck, bad place!

We didnt have good luck and actually would disadvise that place as people running the station threatened to call the cops, and even though it is busy, not many trucks and mainy people going to Braga.

They are probably only local people but I was sure they can drop me at least at the next gazstation on the A3... I abandonned after 5h without replies, smiles or apologies. They never answered me, and it's more rough than only wait. My worst experience so far.

Very good spot to hitchhike north (to Braga, to Galizia [Vigo, Santiago]...). Take the train to São Frutuoso and walk 800m to the gas station in the A3. You'll have to look for the good place to climb over the fence. Make sure no one sees you!

Perfect spot, space to park, people can see you from far, they drive slowly, but... :( Good luck !

A decent spot to hitch a ride towards Vila Real/Mirandela. A short walk from the train station; when we arrived there, a friendly man from the café nearby told us how to get to the station - just before the main gate there's a path to the left between the bushes. Take it and you'll get to a brick wall after around 5m. Climb it (easy with the help of the fence) and you're there! The 3rd driver we asked too us directly to MIrandela.

Good place to ask truck drivers not so much the locals. Got a ride to porto after 45 minutes.

Couldn't even get into the station. Unlike the previous comment, a person at the cafe essentially told us we can't enter and to go away. Waste of time unfortunately

Huge place to stop (with a no-way street) and people are going really slow at the exit of the roundabout. We got a ride to the petrol station on the A10 towards Lisbon.

Got here atlike 11pm, Hotel is expensive and when I walked south to see if I could wild camp I was greeted by big guard dogs on premise barking at me, so I gave up on that idea and went to see if i could catch a ride.
Luckily an amazing trucker pulled up and got me to porto im the night haha

Not the best place to stop a car, but it's possible in emergency lane. Cars can see you from roundabout. We even got a driver heading to another roundabout exit.

I guess luck - me + 1 arrived 11pm from Vigo on Sunday and when I was writing a sign I asked one driver who had took us to Lisbon later that night

We weretrying for 2hours but it was because we were there on Sundays evening and there wasńt any traffic in direction to Portugal. There is restaurant and you can charge your phone at the gas station.
