Horrible place on a Sunday, only locals. One Angolan family took pity on me and took me to the nearest bus station in Torres Novas

Most people will head up north, but there are some tourists that go onto the A23. Got picked up by a Venezuelan family traveling around

Seems like, in the reverse of everyone else, the spot at the entrance of A1 near Encarnação didn’t work for me after an hour. I walked to the gas station and got a ride in 5 minutes

I had to wait over more than three hours to find a ride to Coimbra. I shouldn't know why it wouldn't work out, but probably everybody goes direction of Fatima. Bad experience and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody

Try to NOT get dropped here if you want to go to Spain. All the people head north to Porto, so in this direction its very easy to find a ride.

The "Santarém" service station in the A1 highway is a very busy one, no problems to find a ride here, direction Coimbra, Porto... It's the last gas station before the exit to the A23 highway - so if you're going to SPAIN (Salamanca, Valladolid...), you have to find here someone going to the A23 (nowadays it isn't free anymore, so there's less cars), the first gas station in A23 will be "Abrantes", and you're on your way to Spain!

Got a ride to Fundão (on our way to Spain) in 20 minutes. Good to ask, since the road splits after a few km. Good place to camp too. (June 2014)

Bad place to hike the station is on the wrong side of the highway. Waited there for 2 hours and finally some people going for JMJ took me.
