Regular but not abundant traffic, there were 4 trucks parked (Turkish and Bulgarian). I was lucky to get a ride from a Serbian border control all the way to Bulgarian border since the truck drivers parking there were not to keen on taking me. was holding a sign Pirot―Anonymous

Good traffic, but some waiting. Had a sign Sofia and some Turkish guys coming from Antwerp going to Fethiye gave me a lift to Sofia.―Anonymous

Walking from the border (going into Bulgaria) I held up my sign reading "Sofia" every time a car passed by (2 or 3 every 5 minutes or so on a Thursday afternoon in November), and was picked up within 5 minutes.―Maxim1110

(Late August 2012) I had a car up to Pirot, but when I saw all the cars waiting here, I just got in the middle of the queue to ask people if they were able to pick me. I found a car directly for the French Alps. With the registration plate, it was easy to choose.―Perpete

if you're going towards Sofia, I think it's better to hitchhike few meters after Shell petrol station than at the spot where this marker is―Mpetrovic

Just at the end of the city towards Pirot, after crossing the rail tracks and where city street meets the highway. 10minutes walk from city center―Anonymous

this is just after you pass all tolls at the border.on the right side there are couple of quirky restaurants usually serving truck drivers who happen to loose way much time on this border point in a queue.
There are also couple of shanty kiosks selling road vignettes and snacks.
Visibility is excellent, but I think this general \\'messy\\' feeling of a place where you hitch somehow discourages drivers to pick you up.
Also, hundred meters up the road there\\'s a curve to the right, so you don\\'t have much choice about the location except this one.
Anyhow, all possible traffic passes here, so hitchhing is possible, but not perfect (for a border point).

Walk to the peak of the hill the road goes up to and you'll find a white-stoned emergency holding area which is big enough for trucks as well. Drivers can spot you early and are slowed down by going uphill before.Direction: Belgrade / Nis

As told above, it is a quite messy spot, but it is also the only possible. We got a ride all the way to the Turkish border fast.―Timsah

Not a really good place, low trafic but not many options here. Waited 30min and a truck took me further (solo male backpacker, sign "Beograd")―Tim

It is probably the best spot to hitchhike over long distances. We got a lift to Bulgarian border after 80 minutes with a sign "Istanbul", if we waited longer and/or started earlier, it is probable that we get a lift all the way to Istanbul―Timsah
