Guy and girl without sign.Big mess here between our map and the roads-signs. We choose the N-240 to go to SAN-SEBSTIAN and it was the good choice. A guy picked-up us until ESKORIATZA.

First tried a sign with Madrid, then a sign with Burgos. Waited about 1,5 hours until someone gave me a ride to Miranda de Ebro.Cars here drive slow and there is space to stop, although there was a lot of local/regional traffic. Maybe just bad luck.

I was a bit further down the road near the pedestrian crossing. Got a ride to Burgos in 10 min.―Sander

Toward SAN-SEBASTIAN - FRANCE.Lot of traffic, not so fast. Place to stop. Can go here by foot.
That is difficult here is choose the road to SAN-SEBASTIAN. The map tell you some thing and the roads-signs tell you different. And roads-signs here make you in big confusion. So, keep calm and choose the road N-240 to the NORTH.

Small two lane peaje. Coming from Bayonne I was dropped on the emergency lane on the bridge. Turns out that it is possible to turn around before the peaje, which is a lot safer place to stop.Waited here for about 30 minutes until someone offered me a ride to the boulevard in Vitoria. Good place for cars to stop and pick you up, although it's not very busy.

A lot of space for cars to stop, end of Vitoria heading for Burgos at first seems very very nice, but the reality is that waiting time is quite long and there's a lot of local traffic (for example to Miranda).HOWEVER, my friend and I had huge luck - we stopped a car going to Guarda, Portugal, through Burgos, Valladolid and Salamanca. This was probably like winning a lotery (we were heading for Lisboa), but it happened.
Good luck!!!

Got a ride to Burgos pretty quickly. You need to have a large sign, because cars are a bit fast in the roundabout―Kiéran

Good to go north, lots of place for cars to stop (also, great places to sleep with your tente nearby 😉)However, if you want to go to Burgos, Madrid, or others cities on the west or south, you should go on the west of the city

Waited right after the payment, there are a lot of cars, and they can easily turn into the parking lot behind you if they want to pick you up.―Anonymous

It is hard leaving Bilbao, but here is not that big traffic and cars really have timeto stop. There is also a red lught so u can make eye contact with them. But honestly maybe in the ceter you have a bigger shot. Got a ride from here to Vitoria―Anonymous
