This time I was waiting a bit closer to the city, coz it was a cloudy day and in the shade under the trees it was too dark.
This time I was waiting also only 5 minutes. But I got a short ride, about 20 kms.

One male 40+, no sign, one small and one big backpacks, a sunny day. On my way from Taichung to Taitung (over 350 kms).My previous driver was going straight south, I needed to turn left to go to Taitung. I could go a few hundred metres more, but I asked to be dropped here.
A very nice place. There is more place to stop (an entry to some sort of a picnic area) and shade.
The first car which stopped was also going south. But the second one (after 13 minutes) took me to Taitung.
The couple was superb lovely. They stopped in 3 touristy places on the way and showed me them. And in Taitung they dropped me at the address I was going to.

I just add that there is no shade. But luckily after 4 minutes I got a ride. What's funny, to exactly the same spot as the first time :)

On my way from Kaohsiung to Taitung.I got dropped at this junction, coz my driver was going left and I needed to go right, straight to Taitung. I walked less than 50 meters and started hitchhiking. The place has a very good visibility, cars starting from the traffic lights, so go slowly. There is also enough place to stop. The only bad thing is lack of shade and it was a very hot day. Luckly I got a ride after 3 minutes. The driver was kind enough to take me to the address I was going to in Taitung.

After the traffic lights and a petrol station. Very good visibility. Cars are starting from the lights, so they go slowly. And very importantly there is a little shade. I was hitchhiking around 13:00, and you could fry eggs on the tarmac. So, it's very useful.
After 7 minutes I got a ride from a lady who took me almost all the way to Taitung.

One male 40+, no sign, one small and one big backpacks, cloudy day. On my way from Taitung to Kaohsiung.So so place, coz there was no much space to stop. But I got tired of walking from the city centre, looking for a good spot, so I decided to stop and try this place.
Mid busy traffic, very small side road to stop (enough for a half of a car).
After 15 minutes one guy stopped and offered a short ride to the next town. He was kind enough to drop me at the end of it, in a very good spot. So, I didn't have to waste time looking for a new spot.

One male 40+, no sign, one small backpack, cloudy day. On my way back from Sanxiantai to Taitung.A very nice spot indeed. After the traffic lights (good visibility), with nice space to pool over. Not very busy traffic, 3-5 cars every light change.
After 5 minutes a nice couple of Taiwanese tourists stopped and took me to Taitung. We stopped in a couple places to check touristy spots. Which I enjoyed very much. In Taitung they even dropped me at the supermarket I was going to shop in.
So, a very successful ride indeed.

One male 40+, no sign, one small backpack, cloudy day. On my way from Taitung to Sanxiantai.It was after the curve, so not the greatest visibility. But the traffic was very quiet. And the cars were going slowly, coz it was after the traffic lights. There was enough space to stop on a scooter lane. There are also trees giving shade.
After 5 minutes I got a ride all the way to Sanxiantai. The driver was kind enough and he even got off the main road, 2 kms each way, to drop me at the car park of that tourist attraction.

Very good visibility from the cars standing at the red, 3-5 cars every change of lights. Not so much space to stop, but there was a scooter lane. No shade.
After 5 minutes of waiting I got a ride from two women, straight to Taitung.

Got dropped off here, excellent spot to continue hitchhiking to the north. There’s a lot of space and cars see you from far away. I hitchhiked in the middle of a random day

Had to walk « quite a bit » from the hot air balloon festival, there’s a lot of cars and motorbikes leaving the place, so I just think I wasn’t the luckiest. Still found a ride to Taidong after a reasonable time (long time according to my standards of hitchhiking in Taiwan)

Was my go to spot to hitchhike north of Taidong. Against all odds this is a really great place to hitchhike (before or on the bridge itself). There’s quite a lot of cars too so waiting times are really short
