Take a bus until the final stop(terminal), escape the taxi drivers and go past the gate. If you walk a bit there is a bunch of great spots. Keep in mind, that the karamyk border crossing to kyrgyzstan is closed for foreigners (07.2025)―Anonymous

This is where few locals were hitchhiking too. Some shade under a tree to wait for cars. Not that much traffic, especially going far. Got very lucky with a Chinese couple going all the way Dushanbe. Still better to take this road to Dushanbe than the northern one.―VeikkaK

Here's the start of the northern route towards Khorog/Pamir. Quite tricky with a long montaneous track part with low traffic. Probably more adventurous than the southern route but doable if you have the time and you feel like it. Check the following spots for more precise info :)―paulMM
