Take a bus until the final stop(terminal), escape the taxi drivers and go past the gate. If you walk a bit there is a bunch of great spots. Keep in mind, that the karamyk border crossing to kyrgyzstan is closed for foreigners (07.2025)―Anonymous

from the terminal just cross the street, walk 50m along the road to the gate where the police is. i asked them to help me get a free ride. they gave me tea while i waited about 2 minutes to get a free ride.―saltraspy

Here's the start of the northern route towards Khorog/Pamir. Quite tricky with a long montaneous track part with low traffic. Probably more adventurous than the southern route but doable if you have the time and you feel like it. Check the following spots for more precise info :)―paulMM
