-To Izmir-

High frequented, fast paced road with the possibility to go in every direction. But no luck for me.
Stood right before the highway entrance and also brought some 3-400 m between me and the entrance.
Tried to sign/thumb.

High frequented, fast paced road with the possibility to go in every direction. But no luck for me.
Stood right before the highway entrance, talked to drivers at the gas station (very few ppl stopped there) and also brought some 3-400 m between me and the gas station. It seemed to me that most people were headed north or eeast towards istanbul/ankara.
Tried to sign/thumb/ask around.

Good spot to hitch a ride to the highway around the city. Ask the driver beforehand in which direction they are going though because it's illegal to HH on the highway and you don't want to be dropped off.

Good place to pull in. Plenty of traffic heading South out of the city.

Good spot to get in direction Aydin.

I waited about 20-30 minutes until I got picked up. Cars can pull over quite easily, because there is a big space at the right side. There is lots of traffic from 3 directions, but for some of the cars it might be hard to see you as they are just turning there.

Also Cesme might be possible, but they tend stay on the left side of the road which might make it a little harder for them to pull over on the right side.

You can easily get lift to Cesme direction or Aydin direction or Bornova direction. did not wait more than 10 minutes

Just landed in Izmir and need a ride south? You can start HHing at the airport. Even taxi drivers may help you and take you until the Izmir-Aydin road. There you can start HHing south; however solo woman travelers should beware as there are women waiting at the side of that road (Izmir-Aydin road heading south), you can be mistaken. You can also HH if you're going to the city centre but there is a metro station at the airport, which is a cheap option.

To me, this is the easiest way to get out of the city to go to south.
Take Izban for 2 TRY to Cumaovasi direction. Get off at the last station. Walk for 700 meters.
The road is busy enough, there is space for cars to stop.

The best place to hitchhike south from Izmir. It took 1 minute to catch a car.

Not a great spot, but better than the one listed nearby. I got a ride to Aydin from here in 15 min

Good spot to Izmir and south. There are not so many cars but you just have to wait until you will find someone to Izmir. You can also ask the drivers directly. There is also a bus station directly at the spot.
