Seems good. We got picked up in 3 minutes by people going to Derby. Seems like a lot of traffic is heading onto the M1 from here.―Alifeee

it was okay. we were looking to go South via the M1 and this got us down to Meadowhead, where many people were going onto the M1.―Alifeee

Everyone I spoke to was going North so it was really tricky. I waited by the exit but it wasn’t busy enough for the cars to be stopped so no one pulled over. Tried the same at the exit of the car park with no luck. I approached people at the benches by the food hall and most were going North, or there was one just not interested in giving a lift! Of those who were going North they were very lovely and wished me the best of luck getting to my destination and said they would have been happy to help if I was going the opposite way. My final destination was Peterborough. Finally I met a lovely woman and her two children who offered me a lift to Sheffield and I ended my hitching from there and got a train. Not sure what I could have done differently here. It seemed like an unlucky day.―Anonymous

Petrol station on the way to Manchester. If it doesn't work, then anywhere along the A57 Manchester Road is worth trying. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Sheffield―Anonymous

Advantages: picks up a lot of southbound traffic (including freight) from North Chesterfield and South Sheffield.Disadvantages: gets very muddy in wet weather; drivers will only stop at a red light or when there is no heavy traffic.

Spot is next to the M1 and there is a hotel nearby to freshen up. But there is a lot of local traffic. Going south, the cars were in the inner lane. I got lucky, and don't think my experience would reflect how challenging it normally would be.―SebUltimate

Not a suitable place to turn out, and traffic is a little fast, but I still managed to get someone. They turned back and got me. They were a wonderful old couple who go out for a pleasure drive in this gorgeous countryside every week. They were delighted to take me to my destination in Edale and buy us dinner at the Inn there! This is why I hitch hike!―HoopRider
