There are many laybys in the Loch Lomond area. Probably the best one is one mile out of the village of Balloch, where local trains from Glasgow terminate. There is a lot of traffic, the layby is wide and it also doubles as a bus stop - buses from Glasgow Bus Station to the Isle of Skye, Campbeltown and Oban stop here.

This roundabout is a bit chaotic, but you'll get somebody to pull in where the marker is. If you are several people, take strategical positions, so cars coming from the south and the east can see you a bit earlier.

I was hitching to Fort William and got a lift within 10 mins on a Monday afternoon at 3.30pm to Tyndrum. Lots of traffic at this time and the cars have to slow down for the roundabout. There is plenty of room for cars to pull into the turnoff to the left so that you can get in.

The two of were Hithching to Gleoncoe and got a ride in 15 minutes by a Audi quattro convertible. The guy was driving through the glen 100 mph and we had a sunny day! It was the best drive of my life. :D
We got here for free because of the friendly employees at the Queen street railway station in Glasgow!

There is also a big lay-by so you can hitch cars to Glasgow or to Crianlarich easily. Got a ride in 5 minutes. Thats wonderful:]

Pretty fine place to thump up. In mz case, I got a lift immediately, cause cars were stucked in the traffic jam so they had time to check both me and my sign. [there was diverted traffic in that time]

It was early july last year and we managed to get a ride to Milton (after a 20min wait) which was an even better spot to find a ride to Fort William!

If you're taking the 6 or 6a bus, DO NOT get off here, it goes much further to better spots. If you're walking from Kelvingrove or the west end this is an acceptable spot to reach for free. There isn't a perfect place to stand as there are guard rails blocking you from the view of cars, so you must wait next to the petrol station and the car must pull into the petrol station to pick you up. Only got a ride to Dumbarton, but it's better than waiting here!

nice spot easy enough to hitch from in the summer to Glasgow as there are a lot of people leaving the car park in the village for the city

Got a lift to Crianlarich in two hours - the closer to the city you are, the worse it is.
