I agree coming off the M3 towards is a bad idea here, although there is a train station with no barriers and is hardly ever checked. good advice if stuck is heading to sunningdale and hopping the train at a late peak time. if towards reading there are no barriers at Early station, if towards london there are barriers at Clapham junction but at peak times these are almost always open.―Anonymous

From local knowledge I can confirm that this is quite a fast moving roundabout.―Willochrome

The traffic lights on the roundabout may be the only chance to get a lift on M25 from Staines or around. Cars have no space to pull over so you need to be quick.―Anonymous

You can stop here the cars going from London on M25. Generally a bad roundabout to hitchhike but there is nothing better around.―Anonymous

On-ramp 14 M25 direction north, nice spot with lots of traffic and place for cars to stop. Sign might be good because of the upcoming junction with the M4 and M40.―Anonymous

Great spot for those heading to Portsmouth, there's a small sideway spot just after the intersection. Spent there a minute.―Anonymous

[THIS IS A SHELL GARAGE][A316 SW -> M3]
The garage attendant did not mind me waiting here with sign for M3 / A303. I had no clear defined plan other than to go South West. Within 30 minutes I was offered a hitch all the way to Cornwall but only went as far as Bruton, Somerset. Good spot as a large proportion of traffic will be heading down the M3 and it is the last petrol station before the motorway begins although it is worth bearing in mind that much of that traffic will be headed round the M25.
A short walk to the East along the A316 you will find Apex Corner. The local 285 bus will take you from there to Heathrow or Kingston and there is also a large Sainsburys supermarket there.
