Stood at the entrance to the petrol station and got a lift heading into London. Also got offered a lift to Milton Keynes inside the services when seen walking around with sign. Not loads of traffic but decent spot

Decent spot, mind the trucks piling up, got a lift heading down the M1

I didn't get a lift here, but the passing Buddhist monks who live at the temple just through the trees told me they like to pick people up here when they can! Maybe even try your luck in the car park?

In theory these bus stops near the M1 make fantastic spots, long straight roads with heavy traffic slowing for roundabouts... But I had no luck in over two hours.

Very big service station, lots of cars, all heading for London. Also a bridge over the road, so you can switch lanes here (as I did, I arrived from the South with a lift which took me around London and took a lift back into the Northern part of London)

If you buy something/are kind enough then the McDonald's in the services may give you a free cup with ice, invaluable if it is a hot day.

[M1 SOUTHBOUND]

Having surveyed the area I decided that the best place to hitch from was outside the main services building itself.

Being relatively close to London you may be able to choose which part of London/direction along the M25 you wish to get to.

It took about 35 minutes before I was offered a hitch to Brent Cross, a very useful strategic location at the interchange of the M1/A406 North Circular Road.

Great spot as the trafic light let you time to eye contact the drivers. Perfect to go North/Birmingham. Car can stop along the road.
