I've caught a ride from here to the UK in late December 2023 and again in early March 2024. It works! Although it can take a bit of time to find somebody who is up for braving the ferry and border situation with you... As of March 2024 THERE IS NO DRINKING WATER (unless you want to buy it at petrol station prices) and the staff are really unfriendly.―Zenit

don't know if I was lucky, but I got a lift all the way to near Swindon (could've gone to Heathrow!).they've got plenty of time to size you up coming out of the petrol station but put Bristol or M4 to cast the biggest net if you're going that way.
I tried once using this spot for heading north, which is much much harder to do
