I stood by the traffic lights with a sign saying M74 south. It worked like a charm and almost immediately good a ride near Carlisle. The traffic lights stop for some time and especially during morning, there is quite a cue of cars.

Quite large gas station. But pretty bad for direction Glasgow. I think I got a mercy ride out of here, but I think you are much better when heading towards Edinburgh or Stirling.

This is a decent spot, but if you have the option to pick a gas station, I would opt for the larger one closer to Glasgow. Here many rental cars refuel for the airport.

Space due to a busstop which has a long hashed area safe to pullover. Traffic lites mean large volume of slow traffic. Good ride north with a Loch lomond sign. 20 min wait.

Fantastic spot! Great traffic flow on a Saturday. Bring a sign because traffic could be going a lot of different directions.

I had bad luck hitching at the services, so I tried the hotel. Not great, but I got a long ride to Glasgow. So a win.

There is a petrol station around here ! a god place to head south... Take the bus from Glasgow city center (buchanan station) to uddingston and ask the driver to be dropped the closest as possible to the M74, the petrol station !!

There's a traffic light for the traffic going down to the M8 direction Ednburgh... walking on the side of the road showing a sign when the light is read should work. I waited 15 minutes to get a lift to Edinburgh but I was proposed almost immediately a lift to Stirling.
