Advantages: picks up a lot of southbound traffic (including freight) from North Chesterfield and South Sheffield.
Disadvantages: gets very muddy in wet weather; drivers will only stop at a red light or when there is no heavy traffic.

Someone took us to a Service Station on the A1 from here. Were holding a sign that said South.

I got off at the inter-city bus station and this spot was not far away from there. I was heading to Norfolk and was probably lucky. Not an idyll spot, not much traffic in the early morning, but there's space for cars to stop up the hill.
Most chances when going to the East (North or South)

Waited only 10 mins before getting a lift to Chesterfield. Lots of traffic going short distances South out of Sheffield

Excellent spot to join Newcastle ! A lot of trafic and a good place to park for the drivers, although a lot of of them were going to the south.

Great services, very busy and all southbound! Asked one person and got a lift straight to Bristol! Another time only took 10 mins for a lift to M4

Cant reccomend, too quiet and people dont know about it / ignore it as it's a pain to get to.
Obviously didnt help that this time there were more hitchhikers than people eek #bummit
