it was okay. we were looking to go South via the M1 and this got us down to Meadowhead, where many people were going onto the M1.

Everyone I spoke to was going North so it was really tricky. I waited by the exit but it wasn’t busy enough for the cars to be stopped so no one pulled over. Tried the same at the exit of the car park with no luck. I approached people at the benches by the food hall and most were going North, or there was one just not interested in giving a lift! Of those who were going North they were very lovely and wished me the best of luck getting to my destination and said they would have been happy to help if I was going the opposite way. My final destination was Peterborough. Finally I met a lovely woman and her two children who offered me a lift to Sheffield and I ended my hitching from there and got a train. Not sure what I could have done differently here. It seemed like an unlucky day.

Use this spot for all directions except Manchester. The place is not great, but persevere and you'll get a ride. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Sheffield

Find rides to Manchester from this road. Hitch from this point, or keep walking along Manchester Road until you find a more suitable place. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Sheffield

Petrol station on the way to Manchester. If it doesn't work, then anywhere along the A57 Manchester Road is worth trying. For more info, see http://www.hitchwiki.org/Sheffield

Took us a long, long time to get to Edinburgh from here, but a lot of people seem to be going to Manchester. Another upside is that you can cross the motorway from here. Also, you can easily camp just behind the bushed on the west side.

Hitched into Leeds - Got a lift in 30 seconds from here, makes it hard to judge if it was a good spot or if I was just lucky!

Trying to get South out of Sheffield. I think it was about a half hour wait. Not a good spot.

Good amount of people during the day, easy to get quite a long ride South towards London. Did this as a lone male and it was fine.

I've tried this spot twice and both times been picked up in around 20-30 minutes. You have traffic coming from two directions with a good spot for them to pull in (bus stop). Lots of people heading to join the M1 going south on this road.
