got an offer to go on LeShuttle but they wanted us to pay. After a short while, got an offer to Dover from a Polish truck driver who spoke very little English. Lots of European cars stopping here.―Alifeee

we were heading to Dover. it took a while to get a lift, but we were 3 people. our friends arrived to hitch after us and took a lift before us (cheeky). eventually found a lift to Maidstone after trying several spots (food court, fuel station, roundabout). Lots of French/German/Belgian/etc cars around.―Alifeee

A long wait. There’s lots of EU number plates and truckers. A couple offers to Folkestone, a couple apologetic “we would if we had space”. Eventually we found a lift to Belgium. Unfortunately our lift would not add us to her ticket and offered to continue the lift after we had made our own way to Calais. Foot passenger ferries only come three times a day and our arrivals would not align. We got dropped at Dover―Breno

Took a while but hitchhiking the channel can be competitive here, when competitive in the morning, you have a better chance here going to France.―Anonymous

West Thurrock service area. Good to get lifts to Europe! Have done it several times in 2006. £5 from central London to get there. Any questions: freddy_e@gmx.de―Anonymous

The best possibility to hitch a ride through the Tunnel to France, only negative aspect traffic are either going north or south―Anonymous

Pretty bad junction, traffic in most directions has nowhere to pull over. Eventually had more luck standing by the roundabout itself (where marked) than by the slipways.―Anonymous

Traditionally the No 1 spot of choice for crossing the channel. Also check out the lorry park. Interesting fact: The staff are super nice and will let you sleep in the very comfy massage chairs.―Anonymous

I was heading to North trying to get to the M6, Didn't go so well, The cars at the mall seemed to be all locals, and truckers couldn't take me due to insurance bla bla. At around 20:00 a Services dude chatted with me, Told me to ask the truckers only and wait at the exit of the Truck Petrol station in between. He then helped me out to find a Lorry heading north, In about 45min "we" found a ride to Bermingham―Erth Walker

Most of the traffic here was lorries that weren't allowed to take hitchers (maybe insurance policies have changed since 2006?). Took two hours to get a ride to Maidstone.―Ednaxe

Found it hard to find somebody going towards Dover while asking at the petrol station. Most were going towards London.―Koendev

Agree this would be my choice for going to the continent. Either outside the shops or at the exit road spot mention as well, depending on how you feel.―Anonymous
