Direction: M5 south (Bristol). Here you get both trafic from the gas station and the road. Plenty of space to stop. A gold spot.

Will get a ride from here, had a few offers but not going far. It just might take a while, expect 20 minuets are more.

Cars can stop, going out to M5 to South and M6 to North, but in 2010 march we were standing here for 3 hours in the rain without luck.

The original Spaghetti junction - never tried it myself, but I can image it'd be average to bad, although in walking distance from Birmingham city center and also safely reachable on foot. Cars have space to pull over, go past quite quckly in two lanes, though. Also there's quite a lot of police going past.

They'll kick you out of the petrol station, but the restaurant place is all right.

All right to go to Birmingham, somewhat harder to go towards London, but as in this country everything revolves around that city, you'll get there all right. I was standing in the entrance area to the restaurant bit and they tried to kick me out... just before I got lucky, finally.

Frankley Service Station.

You can get there by taking Bus #22 getting off at final destination. Then you have to walk the road further on, to the motorway. There is a bridge so you have access to both southern and northern directions.

EDIT:
From this spot I already hitched to Scotland, Cornwall and Wales. You can even get to the Northeast from here by following the M6 to Manchester and then turning eastwards.

It's ok. Guy who was leaving gas station picked me up to Bromsgrove. I waited something about 20 minutes at the early evening.

Frankley Southbound can be quite bad , often up to 2 hours , and there is often only 30 cars an hour ... No car driver would stop here as it is a sh*** hole

A lot of cars driving slowly, so it's a good spot.

Got dropped off here begin of April. Got another ride at 2pm within 30min with my sign saying "M6 North". Waited after the petrol station. But you can even ask people at parking area.

I managed to get a lift yesterday from the first person I asked all the way up to nearly Manchester

For some reason or other the Midlands have some of the worst services in the country. The Spaghetti junction you shouldn't use, because you will never get a lift. If your heading towards manchester, try to get a train or bus to Stafford, and hitch from there, the next few service areas Northbound are horrific for rides Northbound, you could end up in one of these old fashioned services for over 24 hours...train / bus stafford, believe me, it will take the strain of hitch hiking off you, north stafford and you wont have problems going north,
