Tricky. I tried here and gave up. Portsmouth is a hard one to get out of!

Don't give up there, it's not a bad place. As 2 guys we spent there no longer that 20min to catch a ride to Bristol (so probably not the easiest one).

heading east or towards london. tricky spot, fast cars coming off the junction, but there isn't anywhere else for quite a way. (you're better bussing it a way out of portsmouth...)

found a lift in 4 minutes (who was going the wrong way) and then another in 2! Not a perfect place for cars to stop but plenty of visibility. Only great for going west towards M3 or further down the M27.. if you want to go east towards Portsmouth, it will be more tricky, as the cars will be three lanes away

I got lucky probably, but I think it's a reasonably good spot. It was quietish at the time (3pm or so) making it a bit easier for someone to stop too.

Quite a good spot as people can see you far in advance and decide, quietish at least when I was there so though no parking laybays a person could stop if there's not people right behind them

It felt like the middle of nowhere but luckily only after something like a minute I got a ride. I suppose a lot of traffic coming this way is going East to or through Petersfield

It admittedly wasn't a great spot but was my first ever time, I got a bit lucky, I'd recommend other places there

It was a good spot, but needs to be low enough traffic so the car can easily park at the side of the road without cars right behind them
