Layby at Moxy Bristol ( hotel on Newfoundland Rd BS1 ) IS NOW VERY GOOD ..for M4 West or East

Decent spot for traffic to see you. The split in the road can give cars a spot to stop but might cause some traffic and angry honks. Best to have a sign as the highway splits north and east further up

One on the ferry, ask everyone for a lift. A lot of people had full cars but with a little luck you will get a ride. When i went to England i managed to get a ride all to way to Bristol. On the way back from England i didnt get a ride, and getting stuck in Calais is HORRIBLE. So ask everyone.

Was headed west to Pembrokeshire , stood by the entrance to the patrol station and got picked up quickly by someone coming out the petrol station who was going camping in the breacon beacons . A really great spot, thanks hitchmap!

I hate hitching from within cities and being solo you may attract more heckling here, I had a sign for london and gave up after only being offered one lift the wrong way in an hour and a half

To go onto the M32: After the roundabout there is a long hard shoulder immediately after the motorway sign, with enough space for cars to stop for you.

The spot i use for M5 Northbound, the other spot at the start of the M32 (see map) is only good for M4 eastbound. Not the best spot in the world but there's a little road to pull in on just after the roundabout.

all traffic will be headed onto the M32 from this spot and they will also have to stop for you

All the trafic goes to M5 (towards Birmingham), there's a service way so they can stop for you. I hitched here in dark at 2009 December and I was picked up in 30 mins to B'ham.

This is a petrol station in the city centre and is very easily accessible from anywhere in the city- basically opposite Cabot Circus.

It is potentially a good spot if you are lucky not to get kicked out by the petrol station staff (that's what happened to us). Nevertheless, you can wait at the exit, where cars have slowed down to join the traffic, but being able to talk to the driver is infinitely better.

I waited to get onto the M32 for 3 hours on a nice summers day and not a soul stopped. Ended up walking to the train station. But great spot physically, maybe i was just unlucky

Hitched here end of March 1pm. Sunny day. Waited in the short shoulder for 30 min with sign saying: "Cardiff". Got a lift.

The hard shoulder before it joins the M-way, is actually short, and narrow, and curves severely to the right. The traffic is fairly fast-moving and closely-packed, and despite plenty of sympathetic gestures from drivers, I think that this is a pretty unattractive stopping place for them. Would not use it next time. (The police passed me 3-4 times without comment, thus the terrain seems secure.)
