Better to wait in Santa Cruz where traffic is traveling slower, may have waited much longer if we did not get lucky―Ytyny

Seems to be the best option for getting out of SF up the 101 northbound; there's a traffic light to slow cars down and a little-used bus lay-by for them to pull over into, and anybody driving here is at least going over the bridge. Several cars going into Marin county stopped, though it took over an hour to get one that was going as far as Petaluma.―Anonymous

Hitch from here to Santa Rosa on a Friday afternoon, took very little time.Apparently the Bus Stop is currently (october '15) closed off so no busses stop here, just a clear spot for cars to pull over.

Had signs for Santa Rosa and 101N, got three ride offers in the span of an hour and a half but they were short of Santa Rosa and would have been hard to hitch out of. Took the fourth ride all the way out to Santa Rosa! There's a pullout area right after the stoplight that's supposedly a bus stop but there weren't signs for buses or any buses stopping at all and a half dozen cops passed us without giving us trouble (:―Cmcneil

It's not a very big bus stop and is only really accessible from the right lane since there's usually a lot of traffic, but I was picked up after 13 minutes by a guy going to San Rafael.―TBF

Walked from the HW 101 with our thumb on the road, no luck for 1 hour and then picked up. Not the best place because the road is pretty narrow all the way but do-able ! Dropped 50 or 60 miles further.(2 guys with big bagpacks)

Not that much space, but the 101-n onramp near the tunnel worked for us, we got a ride offer in about twenty minutes.―Anonymous

Many people are driving locally, but still accept their rides, even if they're going 4 miles. Once you get farther from the Bay Area, you'll get longer rides.―Anonymous

People were chill about it but it took a few cars. Got a ride from a construction worker heading into San Fran―Anonymous
