Waited for about 1 hour 30 minutes. Definitely not the best spot to hitch since the visibility is not great (its dark under the bridge) and there is limited space for the cars to stop. I got lucky with the ride. The driver said he drove past me and decided to turn around to pick me up―Anonymous

Just a bit after the park entry. Got a ride before we even fished a sign to Washington D.C.. Probably good to ask for rides at the parking as well. 4km walk to a free camp site in the river from here―roadlifehacks

Up the road is a nice green area, good for stealth camping. Got a ride down towards the River whee we went to the free campsite. Good spot at a crossing with traffic lights―roadlifehacks

I didn't actually get a ride here, but I only tried for about 15 minutes because I had some time until the bus to Centreville arrived.―Ofercarmon

To get onto I-66W. If you take the 640 bus from Vienna metro stop it drops you close to here, and it's the only spot that makes sense. But it's pretty terrible - tiny amount of time for drivers to see you and very little space to stop. I did get a ride, but it was pure luck. Hitching just outside of Vienna metro seems like a better idea, plus you don't have to pay or wait for the bus.―Anonymous

Not the best spot. Drivers have little time to see you and little room to stop, but it should be possible to get a ride from here. Positioning yourself well would be key.―Anonymous

Ride out of DC West, illegal but enough room on shoulder to stop, got picked up quick―Sargentnickptsd
