Car stopped as I was still on the phone!Jessica is a sweet mom/teacher, dropped me in Encinitas where she thought I had the most chances to find someone to host me for the night. For this, she made a detour, even if she was expected somewhere else.
Offered me plan Bs in surrounding cities if I couldn't make it too.

From my German driver, neighborhood is too fancy for people to stop.Dropped me there, and I walk through the bike path to I5 to keep going as hitching here seemed nonsense.

Never easy to hitchhike in the desert. Most traffic was heading towards NV.
Got a local who stopped t chat and others who wanted to help me but couldn't afford the gas to Baker.
Eventually, John, a truck driver from Texas picked me up because I was the first to "thumb up".
Offered me a shower at the gas station and dinner at his truck stop.
Left with him next morning to keep going South.
Sweet man.

San Diego is a good city to find hitchers at. Very friendly people. Getting picked up is just a luck of the draw for newbies, but if you know what you are doing, you can get one withint like 160 minutes or less―Anonymous
