This spot is convenient for obvious reasons, as it's close to downtown and does not require a bus ride. There's also a shoulder. Since traffic is going several different directions, it's a good idea to hold a sign. I waited less than an hour here for a ride to Portland, which is pretty decent by American standards.

Got stuck here after dark. Plenty of people at the Shell station offered rides, but all going southbound, we needed northbound. In the morning got a ride from the onramp to the north side of Eugene.

It's legal to stand by the freeway in Oregon, so you can catch the cars merging off Beltline Road here; there's a big shoulder for them to pull into and they aren't going too fast yet. The through traffic on I-5 is going too fast to stop.

North out of Eugene, this is your spot. Walk far enough down so you can get both the slow cars coming on the ramp, and allow for anyone on the I-5 to stop if they feel like it. Tons of stopping space. Have a big sign. We got picked up almost immediately.

One of the better spots to hitchhike south in Eugene. Rides are usually headed to Creswell or Cottage Grove.

Fantastic spot for hitching south. Rides are usually headed to Roseburg.

This spot is ok. There isn't a whole lot of traffic, but there is plenty of room to pull off. There is a good place to sit here. The other northbound ramp gets more traffic, but this ramp has better visibility, and a place to sit.

if you stand in the triangle by the northbound on-ramp drivers don't have much room to stop, the overpass shoulder might be a better option. got an early morning ride to eugene after waiting 3 hrs

It's a pretty fast road, but the visibility is good and the shoulder is huge.
