Could be risky under high heat as there is nothing around.Although, I trusted wallpaper's review and I got a ride so easily.
Joe lives in Coolidge and brought me as close of Tucson as he could, even stopping at Casa Grande for some sightseeing.
He even purchased a book about it to help me satisfy my curiosity.

Might not have been lucky because most people were going West towards the Coast for the weekend.Love's employees didn't bother me and some small trees were providing shallow shade
.
People were mostly nice but it was also the place were I got rejected the most without having the chance to ask properly, is it the fault of the Arizona sun ?
An offer made towards Phoenix, but I got stood up by the driver who was supposed to come back to pick me up after running an errand.
Finally, Thomas gave me a ride to PHX. Very pleasant, we talked about travel, arts, music and hallucinogenic experiences.
Received water bottles and lots of bucks.

Love's truck stop near exit. Best place to hitchhike south from Phoenix area-- to Tucson or further on I-20 East. Large on-ramp. Hitchhiked here two times. I recommend to wait for a ride at least to I-8 junction (many truck stops) or Tucson.―Anonymous

Lovely lot lizard at the truck stopp, who berated me for not wanting to use her small crumpled up piece of cardboard. Another guy showed up at the same on-ramp, going off the same info from this site. We talked, he started walking, because it was MY on ramp, and instantly we both got a ride.―Fumbles

I have left from this spot SO many times. Best way to go North out of the valley. Take the lightrail all the way east to Gilbert Rd. Take the Gilbert Rd bus (doesn't run Sundays) all the way north. Walk about two more miles to where Gilbert road ends. Guaranteed rides, no cop harassment. Everyone is going at least to Fountain Hills, a good half the traffic is heading to Payson or beyond. I have started trips to Flagstaff, Payson, Chinle, Moab, Las Vegas, Santa Fe, and more from this spot. Worth it to take this highway over the I-17 any day. Wait times tend to be short.―wallpaper

Great spot to leave the valley heading south, I have started trips to Tucson from here. It is 5 miles south of the nearest bus stop, so requires a little walking or a ride, but worth it to catch the reservation traffic.―wallpaper
