Very quiet spot, no cars stopping only trucks. Only waited 15 minutes to get a ride to Budapest

It's a good place to stop at the bus stop. A lot of cars with Austrian license plates drive by, but they're going pretty fast. I also tried waiting at the gas station for half an hour, but relatively few Austrians stop there.

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Budapest to Arad in Romania (successful).
A very good spot. Legal coz it not a highway yet. Others already described this spot. I only add that place is a bit uphill so lorry drivers may not be keen on stopping here. A 100 meters closer to the center there is a flat and long exit from the petrol station, but it's after a curve so visibility is limited. The choice is yours.
No shade, cars coming in waves due to the traffic lights a bit before.
After 15 minutes I got a ride to a petrol station 27 kms along the highway, from where quickly I got another lift.
The couple even forced a chocolate bar on me 😊

Pretty comfortable spot, you just have to wait:) I wrote out the sign BALATON. At summer lot of people going this way.
Yes, people go a little fast, but not far from here comes in a road where söme cars are coming from, so they a bit slower.
That was my first longer distance ride and i had a great experience. My driver was a translator in the parliament, he travels a lot, he was from upper-class finnancially, he never hitchhiked, has been in a lot of diff countries because of his work. Very nice person, we had a great conversation

One male 40+, no sign, one big backpack, a sunny day. On my way from Brno to Budapest (successful).
It looks like a really good place. At the end of the petrol station. Enough space for cars and lorries to stop. No shade (luckly it was a bit windy that day).
I got dropped here by a previous driver a bit before midday and after 25 minutes a Serbian lorry driver heading home picked me up and dropped on the outskirts of Budapest.
Due to road works on the highway it took us over 3,5 hours to reach the outskirts of Budapest. It looks the construction will last for quite some time.

I wanted to go to Hungary and it was the perfect spot for that. Huge trafic, also early in the morning. I had to wait for a car which was not already full: many families travelled for a holiday, or workers towards Austria/Germany.

It’s not really a spot I would recommend. Quiet little traffic and no good spot to stand or hang around. I decided for the Gasstation at the beginning of the stop. Sitting/ standing next to the entrance. Quiet frustrating to wait 4h. Was about to give up but then a lovely Hungarian Coupple took me all the way to Budapest.
If your there: don’t give up! Talk to people and make a sign. Gasstation is open 24h. To stand at the entrance or exit didn’t work for me, but try it. Started at 13:00 with nearly no cars at the Gasstation. Got picked up at 17:00 with more traffic coming.

Cars pass slowly and there is some grass to sit. No shade. After 30min I got picked up (after changing my sign to ‚25km M5‘ instead of Serbia). Still got 200km. I‘d recommend this spot over the one below.

I waited two hours but it was a low traffic day and eventually there was some works on the gas station. Definitely the best place to go west ! Got a ride to Leipzig. If you really want to go to Germany it's completely doable there's a lot of Germans. Actually more than Austrians haha. But you have to talk to them. I waited almost two hours at the exit of the gas station then I decided to talk directly to the gas station and I was offered also a ride by a bus driver for free to Graz at the same moment I asked Hungarian couple with a dutch plate, they were going at the North of Holland but we agree to let them drop me at Leipzig. Thanks Catarina and Zaly :)

There is good space, truck drivers can see u when stop for chech. Also there is space for car drivers to stop. 2 Ukrainian guys take me a ride to Budapest center. Trafic is not really insane.

Difficult to get a ride to Budapest. Probably best to look for Slovak plates and get a ride to “ASFINAG Raststation Göttlesbrunn”. There you’ll see more Hungarian plates.

Not a lot of room for cars to stop but traffic not intense so ok. Got a lift to Budapest after using the thumb for 3 minutes! Thanks Olshi. You can also try to get closer to the highway from here I guess. Cheers guy

I tried asking drivers here if they could take me to Hungary. But I was very tired. So I just wrote a sign and someone picked me up.
