Great Place for going North. I live 1km away, at least 5 times CS Guest were picked up here in under 15minutes. 2had direct rides to Cairns. There is a bus fm TSV City (http://www.hpbs.com.au/route-33) Ask the bus driver for "Woodlands Caravan Park at the Mt Low turn off"
There are traffic lights. Cars stop here, and then they pull up for you.

Best spot for going South. Took me 30minutes but ride went for 3hours. I was droped off here, possibly a better spot but here it goes from 60 to 80km/h and safe pullover area.

this is where a truck would probably drop you off, to get into town, you have to get lucky with a local who tend to be less receptive to hitchers than the truckers

A lot of traffic going North, stopping in the traffic lights and then going a bit too fast... huge bike lane where cars can stop, but it's not a good place. A lot of the traffic is going North, but most likely will go to some suburb of Townsville... after more than one hour, one crazy trucking stopped and took me straight to Cairns
