If you take the train to Sankt Valentin, you can walk (it's not that close but it's ok) to the ramp of the highway. It's not very easy hitchhiking there because cars come from two directions (you cant address them both at the same time) and there isn't much place to stop. A lot of cars passed by, but I think it took 30 min before one stopped. I got a ride directly to St. Pölten (where I had to be).

I tried to Graz. After 5 hours I gave up.
I asked many people's and also hittchike but simply- 99% cars go to Salzburg/Innsbruck/Passau.

Wouldn’t call it my fastest time yet to catch a car, but the spot seemed good. But nobody really stopped (Monday morning during November). But in the end somebody stopped and gave me a ride next to Linz

Started at 9am with Linz sign. Lot of traffic, but we waited for more than an hour to get to St Valentin exit.
